Weight Plateaus

Weight Plateaus can be very frustrating, but once you pinpoint the reason for your plateau, the solution is fairly simple.

Plateaus can be caused by…

TOO MANY CALORIES:
It’s not unusual to lose your initial enthusiasm somewhere down the line. Maybe you’re not as strict with yourself as you were at the start of your program. This is where you need to keep an accurate and honest diary. Check portion sizes – too large a portion can account for many extra calories.

FLUID RETENTION:
When your intake of water is limited, your cells will hold back fluid in reserve, causing a temporary plateau. You should drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water daily. This enables your kidneys and liver to function properly, resulting in the burning of carbohydrates and fats for use as energy.

SLUGGISH METABOLISM:
The only solution to this problem is to increase your activity level. All it takes is 20 to 30 minute BRISK walk every day. Exercise not only increases your resting metabolic rate, but also reinforces a positive attitude toward your weight loss program.
